Black Loyalist Monument
Moving from the town of Shelburne to Birchtown this photo shows two monuments, erected in 1996, which commemorate the thousands of Black Loyalists who arrived in Shelburne in 1783 and the years following. These Black Loyalists settled outside of the town of Shelburne, creating their own community of Birchtown. Archeological digs in the area have unearthed many artifacts from the early days of the Black Loyalists. The Black Loyalist Resource Centre and Tourism Site is also being constructed to truly honour these people.
