Barrel Factory
Opened in 1917, this is the last privately owned cooperage in North America. Barrels were used by fishermen to store fish, as well as for shipping goods on vessels. In 1950, the Barrel Factory produced eleven different items and had a yearly production of 13000 items. A portion on the north end of the building was added in 1995 for the filming of the Scarlet Letter. The smell of spruce will draw you to the Barrel Factory where you can see barrels being made first hand.
